In 2012, I took a trip to Spain to complete half the Camino de Santiago. 200+ kilometers in 11 days! Some pictures below and here’s a video I made. The video is meant to be fun, silly and funny – nothing serious!

I’d been wanting to do the Camino for 5 years. When I fell sick with a nerve condition and couldn’t walk for six months, it seemed like I would never meet that dream. But then we did meet and I’m so grateful.

I was nervous about how my nerves would hold up. There were moments of sheer misery from the 25 kms/day (average) and hiking with your backpack. My feet were swollen and wrapped up – couldn’t tie my laces. Just when you think you can’t step any more, you do. Just when you feel your essence has been distilled into air, you realize it is solid, with a shape, well-defined, bright.

Before I left for the Camino, I was looking for a copy of “A Separate Peace” by John Knowles. A week before I left, a copy of this book just showed up. I went for a swim at a public pool and, when I returned, the book was sitting on my towel. It just appeared.

This was the line that I wanted to re-discover and to live during the Camino:

“What deceived me was my own happiness; for peace is indivisible, and the surrounding world confusion found no reflection inside me.”  — A Separate Peace, by John Knowles
